THE TEST
Fifty original questions written in the style of the New York State Grade 4 Mathematics Test: 44 multiple-choice questions and 6 short constructed-response questions with work space. All five Grade 4 math domains are covered — Operations & Algebraic Thinking (9 questions), Number & Operations in Base Ten (11), Fractions (12), Measurement & Data (10), and Geometry (8) — and 15 questions include real figures: number lines, fraction models, angle diagrams, area models, decimal grids, and line plots. Skills include place value and rounding, multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, factors and multiples, multi-step word problems, equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, multiplying a fraction by a whole number, decimal notation to hundredths, unit conversions, elapsed time, money, area and perimeter, angle measurement, lines of symmetry, and classifying triangles.
DIFFICULTY LEVELS & KEY CHECKS
Every question in the Teacher Edition carries a level tag — Core, On-level, or Challenge (12 / 25 / 13 across the test) — so you can see at a glance where a student is solid and where they are still growing. Seven questions (18, 23, 29, 33, 39, 47, 50) are marked ★ Key Proficiency Check: they sample the most important skills on the test, so if a student misses several of them, those topics are the ones to review first.
THE SOLUTIONS
Every solution is fully broken down, in the same order a strong problem-solver thinks: the approach first, then numbered steps with the reason for each step and every intermediate calculation written out, why each wrong choice is wrong, a self-check, and a “watch out” naming the trap. Constructed-response questions include a model answer and a simple 3-point scoring guide — one point each for Mathematical Setup, Computation, and Explanation / Units — so grading stays fast and consistent.
PLEASE NOTE
This is a 50-question supplementary practice test. It is not a full-length simulation of the official test’s length and structure. All questions are original practice questions written for this product; this resource is not affiliated with or endorsed by the New York State Education Department.
