Why we started Smart Kids Printables
Smart Kids Printables is an independent publisher of printable practice tests and workbooks, based in Brooklyn, New York. We make practice materials for the exams New York families actually face: the SHSAT, the New York State Tests, and — coming soon — Regents, PSAT, and SAT prep.
We started with a simple frustration. Plenty of practice books give students questions. Very few give them a fair chance to learn from those questions on their own. Answer keys that say only “B” don’t teach anything. A student working at the kitchen table, without a tutor next to them, deserves better than that.
So we set one rule for everything we publish: every solution is fully worked out, step by step, so a student can follow it alone. What the question is really asking. The exact evidence or rule. Each step, with its reason. Why every wrong answer is wrong. The trap to watch out for. Nothing skipped, nothing “left as an exercise.”
What we make
- SHSAT prep — Math topic workbooks, six Math practice tests, and ELA practice tests (Reading + Revising/Editing), all original questions written for the current exam.
- New York State Tests — Grade 8 Math workbooks, and Grade 4 ELA and Math practice tests, each with student and teacher editions.
- Free sample packs — 20-question samples with the same full solutions, so you can see exactly what you’re getting before you spend anything.
Every test comes in a Student Edition (questions only) and a Teacher Edition (answer key plus a complete worked solution for every question).
How every product is made
- Original questions, written to the exam. Every question is written by us for the test it targets — its topics, skills, and difficulty. We never copy official exam questions.
- Machine-checked before a human sees it. Answer distributions are balanced, duplicate questions are caught automatically, and every answer key is verified against the questions.
- Independently re-solved. Each test is solved again from scratch, without looking at the key, to catch wrong answers and ambiguous wording.
- Reviewed before it is listed. Nothing goes on sale until it has passed a final human review. If a buyer ever finds an error, we fix it and update the file for everyone.
An honest note about the SHSAT
The SHSAT is now a computer-adaptive test. Our products are paper practice: same content, same question styles, same 50-question structure per subject — but paper cannot adapt the way the real test does, and we don’t claim otherwise. Paper practice builds the skills and stamina; it is not a simulation of the testing software.
